Reawakening Conservation

Child by Child

Long ago, we were raised to cherish and respect our environment, recognizing how everything was intertwined.

The sturdy trees stood tall, providing us with shelter and shielding the precious top soil from fierce winds, allowing lush green vegetation to thrive, which in turn fed both our livestock and our families.
The rivers, with their clear flowing waters were like nature’s own purifying fountains, nourishing everything from the tiniest creatures to the mightiest beasts.

We learnt for our fathers and grandfathers about the rhythms of the seasons, knowing when fish would spawn and the animals would breed, so we could protect them and only take what we needed to survive…but we have forgotten these teachings and their vitals lessons of balance and respect for the natural world. …drifting from what truly matters causing extinction and barren lands.

We at Firefly aim to reawaken Yesterdays to ensure Tomorrows.

Grade 5s recently had an unforgettable 3-day adventure at Firefly Lodge, set in the beautiful Miombo Forest, Mumbwa. They learned bush survival skills such as building shelters and purifying water and took part in fun challenges like obstacle courses, treasure hunts, and archery competitions. Afternoons were spent fishing (104 fish caught!) and building rafts, while evenings around the campfire featured quizzes and sing-offs. With wildlife sightings and loads of team-building fun, the students returned with new skills, confidence, and memories that will last a lifetime! Firefly Lodge Zambia
